I am attempting to read results from command line output using thefsum
executable(fsum is available: http://slavasoft.com/fsum/index.htm)I am
unable to read results from the command line back to q, as in

Is it possible to read secured ftp data directly into q? The objectiveis
to read only the first N bytes of each file, and if a certainpattern is
