Has anyone already written an interface to Bloomberg's desktop terminal
that can request historical data from q?
I've searched the wiki but only saw a library that seems to be for the
Bloomberg server API.

Well, i can't vouch it but as I remember it used to work with the desktop on windows. But that's distant memories...

Doesn't the desktop API only work locally, i.e., on a Windows-based
Bloomberg Terminal?
